I have been working in the Tissue Banking field for 23 years, in a variety of principally technical and scientific roles. Briefly, these have comprised:

2009 – Present. Senior Clinical Development Scientist, NHSBT Tissue Services, UK. Principle duties include managing the translation of novel grafts and graft preparation protocols from development into routine use, and establishing clinical evaluations for novel types of graft.

2001 – 2009. Technology Centre Manager, NHSBT Tissue Services, UK. Principle duties included the development and validation of novel types of tissue graft and the operational management of a GMP grade clean room manufacturing facility.

1999-2001. Research Officer, NHSBT Tissue Services, UK

1997-1999. Tissue Graft Technician, NHSBT Tissue Services, UK

I am a state registered Clinical Scientist with the UK Health Care Professions Council (Registration No. CS18590)

Participation in Professional Commitees & Organisations

I have been a member of the British Association for Tissue Banking (now part of the Tissue and Cell Engineering Society) Since 1997, and have served on its Executive Committee and as Chair of both the Skin and Cardiovascular Tissue Special Interest Groups

I am a member of the Standing Advisory Committee for Cell and Tissue Therapies, and serve as secretary to the committee. The role of this committee is to oversee and revise the UK Blood Service’s guidelines for the selection of donors for tissue and cellular therapeutic products.

I have taught on courses organised by the EU to develop tissue banking in member states.

Publications

I have co-authored 18 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and co-authored or authored 4 chapters in textbooks relating to tissue banking and cell therapies.
