President's Welcome (2)

Dear colleagues, as President of the EATCB I would like to warmly welcome you all to the Association’s website. The EATCB is a not-for-profit scientific association, bringing together the European and international community of tissue and cell bankers and other related fields.

Firstly, I would like to thank my good friend and predecessor as President, Jacinto Sanchez-Ibanez, who has steered the Association through testing times over the past two years, and will be remaining on the Board to lend his valuable experience and expertise as Past President.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges for the healthcare sector, including for those of us that work in Tissue and Cell Banking. Maintaining a safe and high-quality supply of tissue and cell grafts is challenging at the best of times, and even more so against the background of a global pandemic. Moreover, we have not been able to hold a face-to-face annual meeting for the past two years, which has always been an invaluable forum to meet colleagues, make new contacts and exchange knowledge.

Nevertheless, as I write this message there is a light on the horizon. We are working closely with our colleague Artur Kaminsky in Poland to organise next year’s annual meeting in Gdansk, in October, and it is shaping up to be a very interesting meeting.

We will also continue to collaborate with our fellow professional societies, EEBA, EBMT, ESHRE and the EBA to ensure that the opinions of our members are expressed to national and international bodies who are setting standards and guidelines for the sector.

My fellow Board members and I will be working on some exciting proposals for the Association to accredit and help deliver training courses aimed at tissue and cell bankers, and I look forward to bringing you more information about these soon.

I encourage all members to actively participate in the Association. We will be making increased use of online tools to consult with our members, and allow them to vote on proposals affecting our future direction. I hope you can take the time to respond to these consultations, and if you are not yet a member, please join us!

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in Gdansk next year – until then, my best wishes to you and your families, and please stay safe.

Dr. Diletta Trojan

President, EATCB
